RFID and Bar Code Wristbands for Positive Patient ID Shown at HIMSS
San Fernando, CA (February 15, 2007) – HIMSS Booth #2020 – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification, will showcase a series of patient bar code wristbands and other Auto ID products for positive patient identification during the HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference, February 25 to March 1, in New Orleans, LA.
PDC’s bar code wristbands, as well as patented Smart Band® RFID (radio frequency identification) Wristbands, are used in hospitals to instantly and accurately capture and verify data for medication administration, point-of-care testing (POCT), transfusion, specimen collection/tracking, surgical site safety, patient billing and more.
A partnership with San Diego-based IntelliDOT (www.IntelliDOT.net) further establishes PDC’s commitment to provide state-of-the-art patient ID solutions that help improve patient safety. Together, the companies will be able to deliver to acute care facilities both a proven patient safety solution at the point of care with CAREt™ System, along with the convenience of patient Auto ID wristbands.
PDC has also partnered with Wisconsin-based NiceWare International (www.nicewareintl.com) who provides an automated off-line wristband generation application system with data archiving features, which will be demonstrated at the PDC HIMSS booth. NiceForm, together with PDC bar code and RFID wristbands, creates custom data-entry screens for healthcare providers who need off-line or downtime stand-alone applications for generation of patient wristbands, chart labels or admitting forms. The system simplifies data input and reduces errors in data processing and label printing, thereby improving the patient ID process.
Precision® Bar Code Tags will also be shown. Used in Labor & Delivery departments, the bar code tags thread onto a wristband eliminating common curvature issues related to infant bar code bands. The infant tags accommodate linear or 2D bar codes, along with up to three lines of text.
Danbury Hospital (Danbury, CT) uses the bar code tags in the NICU and Nursery to help extend infant protection to bedside point-of-care glucose testing. Learn how Precision Bar Code Tags improved Danbury’s success rate for automatic uploading of glucose test results to the correct patient record to 99% accuracy.
A recent Smart Band application, in partnership with Hewlett-Packard Taiwan, took place at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital(CGMH) in Keelung, Taiwan. The RFID patient management system helped CGMH achieve 100% accuracy in patient ID, and helped streamline hospital operating procedures. PDC’s Auto ID wristbands provide non-transferable positive patient identification for improved patient safety through reduced medical errors. The hospital bands also help ensure that the "Five Rights of Medication Safety" are achieved: right patient, drug, dose, route, and time; and, meet the requirements of JCAHO for positive patient ID, HIPAA for protection of patient privacy, and AHA to reduce risk of lost or transferred data.
