Precision Dynamics' Ident-A™ Blood Recipient System and Securline® Blood Band System Reduce Transfusion Errors Related to Patient or Blood Misidentification
San Fernando, CA - (October 16, 2007) - AABB Booth # 382 - Patient misidentification and safety is a critical issue concerning blood transfusions. Reducing the risk of human error during transfusions through an effective patient identification system can help save patient lives. Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), the leader and innovator of automated wristband identification, manufactures ISBT 128 Standards compliant blood band systems for positive blood and patient identification. PDC’s Securline® Blood Band and Ident-A™ Blood Recipient systems will be presented at the AABB Annual Meeting and TXPO in Anaheim, California from October 20-23, 2007.
According to the Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT) scheme (a confidential, anonymous scheme for the collection and analysis of adverse events to transfusion), the most frequently occurring adverse event accounting for 70% of incidents reported is ‘incorrect blood component transfused’. Errors can occur at all stages of the transfusion chain and in about half of cases, multiple system failures were identified.* PDC’s Securline® Blood Band and Ident-A™ Blood Recipient Systems minimize the chance of incompatible transfusions due to wrong blood and/or wrong patient identification to improve patient safety.
The Securline® Blood Band System helps reduce misidentification errors while increasing patient comfort and safety. Features include the new Blood Band Plus® with a peel off self adhesive tail that applies to specimen tubes; SecurSnap® closure for maximum safety and security; and 23 easy peel labels for quick identification and tracking of specimens.
PDC’s Ident-A™ Blood Recipient System ensures that proper ID procedures are followed by using tamperproof, non-transferable wristbands and number label sheets. Features include comfortable moisture resistant bands with pre numbered insert cards, transfusion numbers and sequential numbering to clearly identify the patient and blood container, and adhesive labels which firmly adhere to wet and refrigerated blood containers or tie tags.
AABB attendees will have the opportunity to view Securline® Blood Band and Ident-A™ Blood Recipient Systems up close, receive demonstrations and take part in discussions regarding new PDC Bar Coded Blood products. PDC will be located at AABB Booth #382. For more information please visit: www.pdchealthcare.com/bloodbands or call PDC’s customer care at: 800-772-1122
