PDC Debuts RFID Products for Patron Management & Healthcare at RFID World

San Fernando, CA (March 1, 2005) – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification, will showcase its newest products incorporating RFID (radio frequency identification), Smart Kiosk™ and DR1000 during RFID World, in Dallas, TX, March 1-3.

RFID for Patron Management

PDC’s cashless payment solution consists of Smart Kiosks, Smart Band® RFID Wristbands, and Smart Readers, which are located at points-of-sales throughout venues for quick and easy purchases. Smart Kiosk is a free-standing booth with touch-screen that allows patrons to load money using cash, credit or debit cards onto RFID wristbands which are provided to patrons at admissions. Smart Reader is a free-standing combination point-of-sale (POS) system and reader that replaces the need for expensive stand-alone POS systems and readers.

“Smart Kiosk is a money loading device that works similar to ATM machines, but instead, funds are transferred onto patrons’ RFID wristbands,” comments Victor LaRosa, PDC RFID Manager. “It is part of the latest cashless payment technology which is practical for water and amusement parks where patrons don’t like to carry wallets, and loose cash can get wet or lost. It provides an added convenience for both park owners and patrons.”

The system helps increase throughput at concession stands, reducing long lines that often deter patrons from making additional purchases. Most of the time spent waiting in lines is attributed to the financial transactions of handling and counting cash or processing credit cards.

RFID for Healthcare

The DR1000 dual RFID/Bar Code handheld reader, developed for PDC by SkyeTek, is designed to improve the accuracy of patient identification and safety in the medical industry.

DR1000 provides the ability to read/write to Smart Band RFID Wristbands, 13.56 MHz transponders, and scan 1-D or 2-D bar codes. It combines an RFID reader/writer and an imaging bar code scanner into a tethered reader. The lightweight and durable DR1000 can reduce common manual data-entry errors, eliminate repetitive data-entry into medical devices, and parse data and automatically fill in appropriate fields on a form.

“In recognizing the need to facilitate the interoperability between RFID and bar code, we developed a device that can read/write to an RFID wristband and scan a bar code,” said Irwin Thall, PDC RFID Manager for Healthcare. “The DR1000 easily connects to point-of-care mobile carts and devices such as EKG machines, pulse oximeters, and infusion pumps—allowing for seamless and efficient patient administration, tracking, and care.”

Stop by PDC’s booth #312 to see product demonstrations. Attend PDC’s presentation entitled “Patron Management and Tracking” in the Contactless Payment and Consumer Applications track, on March 3 at 2:45pm. Visit www.pdcsolutions.com/rfid-solutions.html for more information on PDC RFID solutions.
