PDC Debuts RFID & Bar Code Reader as Part of Its Auto ID Solutions for Healthcare at HIMSS 2005
San Fernando, CA (February 14, 2005) – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification, will debut its new DR 1000 RFID (radio frequency identification) and bar code reader at the HIMSS (Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society) conference on February 14 in Dallas, Texas, booth #6913. Developed for PDC by SkyeTek, developers of tiny, multi-frequency RFID read/write modules, the new dual handheld reader is designed to improve the accuracy of patient identification and safety in the medical industry.
Precision Dynamics Corporation’s DR 1000 Dual Reader provides the ability to read/write to RFID wristbands and scan 1-D or 2-D bar codes. It combines an RFID reader/writer and an imaging bar code scanner into a tethered reader. The lightweight and durable DR 1000 can reduce common manual data-entry errors, eliminate repetitive data-entry into medical devices, and parse data and automatically fill in appropriate fields on a form.
“In recognizing the need to facilitate the interoperability between RFID and bar code, we developed a device that can read/write to an RFID wristband and read a bar code,” said Irwin Thall, PDC RFID Manager for Healthcare. “The DR 1000 will easily connect to point-of-care mobile carts and devices such as EKG machines, pulse oximeters, and infusion pumps—allowing for seamless and efficient patient administration, tracking, and care.”
Implementing PDC’s DR 1000 will enable caregivers to perform their tasks at higher levels of effectiveness and enforce the “Five Rights of Medication Safety.” It is also compatible with most medical devices.
