Precision Dynamics Showcases RFID & Bar Code Reader at RFID in Healthcare Conference
San Fernando, CA (November 30, 2004) – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification, will showcase a prototype of their new RFID (radio frequency identification) and bar code reader at the RFID in Healthcare Conference on November 30 to December 1 in Boston, MA. Developed for PDC by SkyeTek, developers of tiny, multi-frequency RFID read/write modules, the new dual handheld reader is designed to improve the accuracy of patient identification and safety in the medical industry.
The DR-1000, PDC’s new dual reader, combines an RFID reader/writer and a 2-D imaging bar code scanner into a tethered reader to capture information from an RFID chip and a 1-D or 2-D bar code. The device also parses through data and automatically fills in appropriate fields on a form. It eliminates repetitive data-entry into devices such as infusion pumps and reduces common manual data-entry errors.
“In recognizing the need to facilitate the interoperability between RFID and bar code, we developed a device that can read/write to an RFID wristband and read a bar code,” said Irwin Thall, PDC RFID Manager for Healthcare. “The DR-1000 will easily connect to point-of-care mobile carts and devices such as EKG machines, pulse oximeters, and infusion pumps—allowing for seamless and efficient patient administration, tracking, and care.”
Implementing PDC’s DR 1000 will enable caregivers to perform their tasks at higher levels of effectiveness and enforce the “Five Rights of Medication Safety.” It will also be compatible with most medical devices.
